CHIEF MATE
Entry Qualification Requirement
• Holder of Certificate of Competency as
Chief Mate D2 issued by the PRC
• Holder of certificates for minimum
standards of training for Management Level
officers under the STCW95 regulations and
of related statutory certificates
• With Good moral character
• With at least two (2) years experience as
Second Mate onboard ocean-going vessels

• With at least two (2) years experience as

Promotion Criteria to Next Higher Rank
• Holder of certificate of competency as Master Mariner D1 issued by PRC
• Holder of certificate of competency as Master Mariner D1 issued by PRC
• At least two (2) years experience as Chief Officer onboard vessels trading worldwide, one (1) year of which must be on vessel of the same type and tonnage where candidate is being endorsed for promotion
Training:
A. Onboard - Must have sufficient administrative training in handling ship’s accounts,
reporting systems and shipboard operations
B. On Shore - Must have undergone training and seminars on “Leadership Courses”
• Must possess good knowledge on various type of charter parties
• Must possess good knowledge on various ship’s trading certificates related to vessel’s flag and
classification
• Proficient in oral and written English communication
• With endorsement for promotion from Ship Superintendent, if required by the principal
• Holder of certificates for minimum standards of training for Deck Officers for Management Level under the STCW95 regulations and of related statutory certificates as Master Mariner
